There is no need to duplicate, move or reconfigure your data for a proper integration when it comes to using Geocortex applications; your data can simply flow seamlessly between systems, allowing for you to access your information faster and more efficiently.
In this week’s Geocortex Tech Tip, we thought it would be a great opportunity to show you some of the new enhancement capabilities with third party map integration control in Geocortex Essentials.

“Hi, I’m Jonathan Bystedt, and I’m the Product Owner for Geocortex Essentials and GVH. We’ve created some new third party integration widgets for GVH. We have a new one for Apple Maps, for Mapillary, and we’ve enhanced the Bing Maps control with a Street View type imagery.
So let’s take a look at these now!
Hi, so today I’m going to walk you through some new enhancements and capabilities that are coming to the third party map control in GVH 4.13. We’ve both added some new sample widgets and added some new capabilities to all the widgets.
Starting off here, first, you’ll see this is Apple Maps, a brand-new widget for 4.13. It’s really just a simple 2D map right now. You can pick, of course, your road map or your satellite. I’ll use this to demonstrate that we’ve also enabled map sinking in the upcoming release. So, you can have these sink their location and zoom level. As you can see, if I zoom in, or if I pan the Esri Map, the Apple Map stays in synchronization. And then if I turn that off, of course, I can move it independently.
All right, second, we have an Esri Web Scene. So here we are in Montreal, looking at the downtown core, I can move my position navigator and go up the top of Mount Royale and look down over the city and the St-Lawrence River. I can use the right mouse button to rotate the view and the left mouse button to pan, this is just as in any other as Esri Web Scene control, which is what this is.
We would just configure this with the ID of a web scene that you’ve got saved in your Portal or ArcGIS Online. Yes, we do also support secured items as long as it’s secured, so that it can be accessed by the same user as you’ve used to log into the viewer.
All right, next up, we have Mapillary this is kind of a street view type thing. Typically, though, it only displays a single static image. Though, it can be of quite high quality. And you can navigate with these controls down at the bottom or you can press the play button here to go on a little tour with the car that was taking these pictures. This is just the publicly available Mapillary imagery configured in this control right now, but there’s a lot of opportunities with their stuff to provide your own imagery or take advantage of a lot of advanced mapping capabilities that they have. I would encourage you to go over to their website to check out what you can do. This sample widget is really just getting you started. Pretty cool, though.
All right, so moving right along. We already had a Bing Maps control, but we’ve enhanced it with support for a Bing Maps, what they call ‘Streetside Imagery’, and you’ll see this is very similar to another street-level imagery provider that you may have already been familiar with. We can navigate, turn around 360 degrees, and navigate by clicking and holding the arrows that appear.
You’ve probably seen something like this before, and also please note the Bing Maps backgrounds on the Esri map is required to adhere to the terms of the Bing Maps terms of service, but this may make it a little bit easier to use for some people than the Google Maps provider.
I’ll just show you quickly that this is the existing control and instead of configuring it with birdseye aerial road or what-have-you, you would simply configure it as ‘streetside’ here and then when you launch it in a viewer, this will show up automatically.
