With the release of Geocortex Essentials 4.13, we introduced additional development tools and external widget support to let you customize your apps even further.
One of these elements involved enhancing web map import and export settings, and how you can now import pop-up configurations to our Geocortex Viewer for HTML5 (GVH) with arcade expressions and charts, and then export those configurations to a web map.
See this in action in the Geocortex Tech Tip below!

“Hi, I’m Jonathan Bystedt and I am the Product Owner for Geocortex Essentials and GVH. We’ve made a lot of enhancements to web import and export, including the ability to import your pop-up configuration to GVH with arcade expressions and charts, and the export your feature details configuration from GVH to a web map. So, let’s get started and see how it all works.
So today I’m going to walk you through some enhancements that have been made to web map import and export in the Essentials and GVH 4.13.
Here we have a web map that I created earlier in ArcGIS Online to demonstrate the import of renderers in GVH, and I’ve added some new enhancements to it, that were not previously able to import.
The first thing you’ll see here is that I’ve labeled all of these areas on the ‘Clean Streets Index Grids 2016 Q1’ layer with the day of their trash pickup. We’ll just switch over here, you’ll see that shows up in GVH, just as it does in the web map and you can toggle the labels or customize them.
Now if I click on one of these, I can see a pop-up come up with some feature data, some formatting and such, and also a picture of a cat that I’ve added!
If we go over to GVH and click on one of these, we can see that the pop-up has been imported just as it was in ArcGIS Online. Not only feature attributes data can be used, but also arcade scripts can be used to configure this data, and you should see it in GVH exactly the same way that you do in the web map.
There’s our picture of a cat, cute little guy.
Moving along. Let’s take a look at this transit stops layer here. If I click on one of these stops, I can see that my pop-up not only has some attribute data nicely formatted, it also has some charts.
We can import these into GVH as single feature charts. Although, they do not show up in the map tip, they show up in a place where we normally display single feature charts, which is in the feature details.
So, I’ll just click on one of these guys here, and there’s the pop-up as it was configured in the web map. If I ‘View Additional Details’ and I scroll down to the bottom here, I can see that the charts have also been imported and are displaying in exactly the same way as an Essentials single feature chart would display.
Let’s look at this one last layer here. We’ve got some arcade scripts in this one and I’m afraid they are not quite working in the web map, because I don’t have the supplementary data in this map to allow them to work. The reason for that is I’ve actually exported these from GVH to the web map that also works in the other direction if you have supported single feature charts or arcade scripts or map tip configuration. You will see that come up when you export your GVH site to a web map.
We can see that if we go to this layer in the viewer. I can turn it on. I’ve got also some labels that are showing up that I configured independently in Essentials.
The last layer I’m going to show to you here. I actually added some stuff to it in Essentials and I’m going to demonstrate it exporting things the other way out to a web map.
So, I’ve added to this layer with the smart mapping renderer, which was, of course, configured in the web map. I’ve added a map tip with some arcade scripts to tell us what community it is in and what communications infrastructure there is if there is any. There is a census block with some, right there. Also, if I view additional details, I can see that I’ve configured some single feature charts.
Now, if I export that to a web map, I will see that my arcade scripts are here. They are not quite working because I don’t have the supplementary data on the map. They need to query, that has to be there. But, I do have the charts right here in the pop-up. More or less as they were, of course, they look a little bit different because this is a different platform with different capabilities, but you can see that these new features work in both directions from GVH to a web map also to a web map to GVH.
I hope you find this interesting and useful. Thanks for listening!”
