Geocortex Analytics is more than just a simple application performance monitoring tool. This powerful performance monitoring technology gives you insight into exactly who is using your applications — and how they’re being used — to best focus your ongoing GIS investments.
Enhancing user experience was one of the fundamental goals when creating Geocortex Analytics, and we wanted to spend some time today to show you how you can enrich that experience by understanding how your users are engaging with the tools in your applications.

“Hi, I’m Cam Carmichael. I am the Product Manager for Geocortex Analytics. Today, I’d like to show you how you can use Analytics to monitor your tool usage in your Geocortex applications. Let’s get started!
Here we are in Geocortex Analytics. We are looking at the Geocortex Analytics applications that I’ve got listed and I’ve filtered myself down, so that all I see is ‘LA County,’ and I’ve set the date here for December.
I’m going to scroll down to the tool section. Here’s the graph for ‘Tool Usage,’ and I can quickly see for this viewer how people are using it. There’s a bunch of use of the ‘Add Markup’ tool, a bunch of people are using ‘Identify’, some workflows are being run, and I can step through each of these and I can understand at the high-level which of the tools are being used.
If I want to see more information about any one of these sections, I can go in and I can include details. Now, I can go in and I could see that most of the identifies we’re a rectangle identify; people have been adding polylines and editing points, and if I’m interested to see for example which workflows are being run, I can simply go in and I can filter to say I want to see everything that contains ‘workflow’. Now I’m looking at the workflows that have been run, sorted by the number of times. The ‘ParcelReports’ gets the most use, it seems.
Now, I’d like to follow up on a report that I got that some of my users were struggling to use the point identify tool, so I’m going to come in and I’m going to just look at ‘Identify,’ and I’m going to see that in fact, 54 of the occurrences were using the rectangle identify. Only five were using the point identify. This maybe suggests an area where I should look at doing some subsequent training for my users.
Making sure that your applications have the right tools and that your users are using them effectively is critical to the success of your applications.
You can use Geocortex Analytics to optimize this tool usage.
Thanks for watching!”
